Day 26: Make plans to volunteer your time

Today’s kindness challenge would be a fun one to do with family or a friend. Make plans to volunteer your time. Over the past year the number of volunteers has dropped off, but the need for them is still very great.

It’s bee fact Friday! Ever wonder why beekeepers use frames like this? Well, in 1851 a Philadelphia minister named Lorenzo Langstroth discovered what is now called “bee space”. Bees prefer 3/8 to 1/4 inch of space to move around and do their work. If there is more space they will fill it with wax and less space means they can’t move. So the frames are spaced 3/8 inches apart which helps the bees work more efficiently and easier for the beekeeper to care for them. Another fun fact: this type of hive, where boxes are stacked on top of each other is called a Langstrogth hive after the man who created it.
