With Brave Wings She Flies

A little bee’s wings are somewhat of a mystery and how they fly stumped scientists for more than 70 years.

The size of their wings compared to their body size and the reality that they carry their weight in pollen/nectar doesn’t add up. Finally, high-speed photography allowed scientists to understand. The bees wings beat around 230 times a second and they twist and rotate in flight. Instead of continuous airflow over their wings like a plane or bird, they create tiny tornado-like airflows on the edges of their wings.
